Is there a secret to health and safety success? We think so! We speak to Carl Gryniewicz to find out the top items to prioritise. These top tips will also have a knock-on impact on the culture of your business.

1. Prioritise just 5 things and set a deadline:

Get your safety audit done and look at the high-priority actions. Take the top 5 and set a deadline to implement them.

2. Delegate:

Allocate responsibility for the 5 things and set deadlines for your team.

3. Get employee/workplace buy-in:

Get your workplace thinking about health and safety to help to create a culture change. Encourage the team to report safety issues, and promote employee intervention if they see an unsafe situation arise. One of our clients asks for any heath and safety issues to report at the start of each weekly team meeting – meaning the whole team feels their health, safety and wellbeing is a priority.

4. Take the lead:

Ensure the management makes health and safety top of the agenda. You can spend money on equipment and consultancy, but if someone in the management walks past an easily fixable issue, it’s not setting a good example, and ultimately, wastes your money.

5. Let the workforce have their say:

Health and safety often gets implemented by the management but needs to be carried out by those on the ‘shop floor’ doing the work. Get those who are in the know involved to really improve things.

The next installment of Carl’s top tips will be in next month’s newsletter. But in the meantime, if you would like to discuss any issues with us, please get in touch.
