Just days after the HSE released this year's shocking death rate on construction sites, (at its highest in 5 years) two workers have died after falling from scaffolding in southern England.

One worker, who was employed by EDF energy, fell 6m from scaffolding whilst working at Worthing High School in Sussex. An ambulance was called however he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another worker was killed after falling from scaffolding on a Sir Robert McAlpine site at Upper Thames St in London.

The HSE are investigating the two incidents and have also launched an inspection blitz on construction sites.

Almost 30% of the 77 construction site deaths last year were a result of fall from heights, falls also account for 40% of all injuries.

During the HSE's construction site campaign, inspectors will be looking for organisations to have in place trained persons for planning, supervising, risk assessing and carrying out work at height.
