Statutory holiday entitlement will increase from four weeks to 4.8 weeks from 1 October 2007, and to 5.6 weeks from 1 April 2009.
The DBERR* has now published frequently asked questions on calculating the forthcoming additional statutory holiday entitlement, along with a 'ready-reckoner' (click below to see the ready reckoner).
Holiday entitlement ready reckoner
The ready-reckoner enables employers to work out the increased holiday entitlement for existing employees. For example, an employee whose leave year starts on 1 November will have statutory entitlement of 4.07 weeks in the leave year 2006/07, 4.8 weeks in the leave year 2007/08, 5.26 weeks in the leave year 2008/09 and 5.6 weeks in the leave year 2009/10.
* DBERR – "The Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform". The Department brings together functions from the former Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), including responsibilities for productivity, business relations, energy, competition and consumers, with the Better Regulation Executive (BRE), previously part of the Cabinet Office.
