Scientists from the British Geological Survey (BGS) have been taking to the air in the aftermath of the flooding in the UK to find out how modern flooding compares with ancient flood areas, based on the premise that historical flood maps are the key to future flood planning.

New approach to reduce lorry incidents

The Highways Agency has launched a new multi-agency approach to reduce lorry incidents in the key Kent area. The new campaign, to be known as Operation Lexicon, will aim to improve road user safety, using a multilingual CD to educate lorry drivers on how to drive safely on England's motorways and trunk roads.

Many company drivers unaware of vehicle smoking ban

With the smoking ban now in force in England, there is still some confusion over its effect on vehicles used for work. A new survey has shown that van drivers are largely oblivious of the new rules; Vansunited ( www.vansunited.co.uk) found that 46% of drivers knew nothing about the rules regarding commercial vehicles.
