After the two recent major fires at Skegness and Newquay now is a good time to think about our own fire arrangements. In both these cases fire caused major damage and in one case loss of life.
It is worth asking ourselves some questions:
1. Have you had your fire alarm serviced in the last twelve months?
2. Have you had your fire fighting equipment serviced in the last twelve months?
3. Have you had a fire risk assessment carried out and acted on the findings?
4. Do you carry out a regular fire inspections to ensure standards are not slipping?
5. Do you have an adequate fire procedure and your staff trained?
6. Are staff who may be required to use fire fighting equipment trained?
7. Do you carry out weekly tests of the fire alarm system?
8. Have you carried out your daily check of fire fighting equipment and fire escape routes?
9. Have you had a practice fire drill in the last six months?
10. Do you have records for all of the above?
All of the above need to be in place to ensure the safety of employees, visitors and other people in the area. If the answer to any of the above is NO now is the time to put it right. Tomorrow could be too late.
