A workman in his 30's died when an unshored excavation collapsed in on him.
Investigation revealed that a dumper had been positioned too close to the excavation edge, precipitating its failure; it also revealed that the dumper driver was untrained.
The Company from Linwood, Renfrewshire, was fined £100,000 for breaching the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 in the circumstances of the accident at a site in Hamilton, Lanarkshire, during November 2004.
