A construction company from Bromley has been fined a total of £20,000 with costs of £16,140 as a consequence of exposing a number of persons to asbestos fibres.
The work for Primark, who took over several of Littlewoods retail outlets during 2005/6, involved a 'stripout' of an old Littlewoods store in Bedford's Harpur Centre in March 2006. Sadly, verbal instructions were misunderstood and, as a consequence, the company's employees, contractors and health and safety inspectors for the client were exposed to asbestos.
